How you handle trials in life depends on whether you are reaching for a telescope or a microscope. When you use a telescope, you make things far away appear closer (or clearer). You use a microscope to make small things look bigger.
So when trials come, what do you reach for? Do you reach for a microscope and examine the trial in great detail? All that does is make your problem seem bigger. Or do you bring your trial to God as you look at Him through a telescope? What that will do is make your God look bigger.
We are told in Psalm 34:3
Oh, magnify the Lord with me,
And let us exalt His name together.
How to you magnify things? In my example you would use the telescope. Set your focus on God with “telescope” in hand and the more you magnify Him, the smaller your trial will seem to you. After all, what is your trial compared to God Almighty?
Here are some practical (and Biblical) ways to magnify the Lord;
Live in a way that will always glorify God! (1 Cor 10:31)
Thank Him for at least 3 things when you wake up each day. (Psalm 63:1-3)
Praise God when you are happy! (Psalm 34)
Praise God when you are sad! That is not as easy, right? Do it anyway. (Hebrews 13:15)
Thank Jesus for saving you from sin and death! (Eph 2:4)
Remember the goodness of God! (Psalm 27:13)
Next time a trial comes, grab the telescope and magnify the Lord. Your troubles don’t stand a chance! 🙂
