I recently read a quote by Carrie ten Boom that made me think. “Is prayer your steering wheel or your spare tire?“.
If prayer is my steering wheel I would start my day, start each decision I have to make, start every interaction I engage in and start every project I undertake with prayer. If prayer is my spare tire I would do what I want to do for the day, make every decision on my own, interact with others based on my feelings and undertake projects based on my desires – THEN, when things don’t go my way, resort to prayer.
Is God your source for direction and ability or is He an add-on to your plans?
It takes honest personal reflection to answer that question. I take time to pray every morning and pray throughout the day as I go about “my business” but am I really laying my day open and asking God what He wants me to do? Am I willing to interrupt my plan for His? OUCH.
Don’t feel condemned by this! Rejoice that God has brought it to your attention, repent for treating Him as an after-thought, and receive comfort from Abba, your Daddy God. He is merciful. He wants to lead you. Come boldly before the throne of grace and you will find mercy and grace to help in your time of need (Hebrews 4:15). Then watch as God does exceeding abundantly above all you ask or think as the Holy Spirit of power works within you, for His glory (Eh 3:20).
When you allow God’s way into your day you will have a good day.
