Kind of a strange title, yes. What do I mean by “We are what we are”? Quite simply I would like to address the confusion today that so many have. What gender am I? What am I? Am I a dog, a cat, a fish or something else? I will admit I have a difficult time thinking people are confused about who and what they are. To me the gender question is easy. My DNA is male therefore I am a male, a man. I am not confused about it. Not only does my DNA tell me I am a man, my body parts tell me I am a man. My body chemicals tell me I am a man. I am not a dog, a cat, a woman; I am a man.
Why is any of this even a question? Because of sin. Yes, sin! Humans, apart from God, are bent towards sin, evil, wickedness and perversions of all kinds. We will lie, cheat, steal, attack, hurt, murder and more. Without God we will call good evil and we will call evil good. Without God we will pervert anything, even our Identity as a man or woman.
But, I will say with all certainty that you are either a man (male) or a woman (female) and nothing else. Your DNA does not change. Genesis chapter 1 verse 25 says that God created all the animals after their own kind. Kind means species. In other words a horse will give birth to a horse, a dog will give birth to a dog, a mouse will give birth to a mouse, a monkey will give birth to a monkey. Each animal will procreate a creature of its own kind. Therefore mankind will give birth to mankind. Humans will give birth to humans, never anything else.
Also Genesis Chapter 1 verse 27 says that God created mankind male (man) and female (woman). So you can not be anything other than a male or female. There should be no confusion. Our bodies tells us, our hormones tell us, our DNA tells us. You are either a male or a female. I hope this helps you if you are confused.
God has also make a way for you to be free from sin and confusion. If you believe in your heart that Jesus is Savior and Lord and you confess it with your mouth, you will be saved. It is that simple. Jesus paid the price for our sins and this allows us to come to God through Jesus Christ. I pray that you seek Him.
