How does a person of faith talk? Let’s search the Scriptures and see.
Abram. What did he go around saying? Did he introduce himself as the old, childness man or father of many nations (his very name means “Father of a multitude”)?
Joseph. Did he tell everyone he was a Hebrew hopelessly betrayed by his family or did he speak words in line with God (Genesis 37-50)?
David. Although anointed King long before he was a king, did he go about spouting his poor circumstances or did he speak words aligned with God’s promises to him (1 Samuel 16-31, various Psalms)?
Paul. Listing his many mishaps, he concluded he was more than a conqueror through Christ (Romans 8:37 and others).
While some may say speaking of their current woes is realism, what they are actually doing is reporting their circumstances from an earthly perspective rather than speaking the eternal truth of God’s Word. Compare a thermometer to a thermostat. If the thermometer could speak, it would only say the current temperature. If a thermostat could speak, regardless of the current temperature, it would report the temperature it was set at.
Do you want your future to be different than your past? Instead of constantly saying the undesired circumstances of your present, get a vision from God as to where you want to be and call those things that be not as if they were (Romans 4:17). God’s people perish because they don’t lay hold of the vision God has for their future (Proverbs 29:18, Hosea 4:6). Start by believing what God wants for you from Scripture then start saying it. How many times did Jesus say “let it be unto you according to your faith” (Matt 9:22;29, 15:28, Mark 10:52, Luke 7:50,8:48)? Remember, you shall have whatsoever you say (Mark 11:22-24). Start aligning your words with the truth from God’s Word and walk out in the victory, for His Glory.
