Flowing in the Power

by Cindy Phillips

We recently experienced a prolonged power outage at our home. The cause of the outage was somewhere between where the power was generated and where it would be used (our home). Did the power stop flowing because we did not receive it? No! The power was available but something was stopping it from being delivered to our home. Without electricity flowing our electronic devices didn’t work. Once the stoppage was cleared the power flowed and our devices worked again.

Just as electricity powers our home, the Holy Spirit provides the power for our Christian walk (Eph 1:19;3:10;3:20;6:10). When we are not allowing the power of the Holy Spirit (which is always available John 14:16) to flow, the giftings He gave to us (1 Cor 12:11) won’t work.

Impedance is what stops the flow of the power, whether it is electricity to your home or the Holy Spirit in your life. When you are spiritually “stopped up” the power available to you won’t flow through you. What are you to do? As the power company searches to find the impedance and removes it, so, too, you need to search to see what is stopping the flow of God’s power in you. Is it ignorance (that is, do you know the power is available and how to use it)? Are you walking in disobedience? Are you being prideful? Are you enjoying the pleasures of sin? Ask God to show you, then repent.

Delight yourself in the presence of the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart (Prov 37:4). He will put in you the desire to do His will (Eph 2:10;5:10;5:17). It is His will you be obedient and fruitful (Rom 12:1-2, Gal 5:22-23). Be honest, examine yourself, humble yourself and let the power flow!
