Become a workman God can use

By Pastor Dave

A couple of weeks ago I talked about working out, and how we need to set time and effort aside to study, pray and read the scriptures. When training the body we call it a “work out”, not an easy out or a fun out. It takes effort, time, dedication and commitment. It also takes a plan. You can’t just run or lift weights in a hap hazard manner. You need to plan the work then work the plan. The same is true of spiritual growth. 2 Timothy 2:15 (NAS) Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth.

We need to present ourselves to God. We need to be very aware of our relationship with God. That should be your motivation. God wants to use most of us more than we know but our lack of spiritual fitness and strength limits us. Just like a weak body can not bear heavy loads, a weak spirit can only handle a little.

We need to present ourselves approved to God. When we have a trainer at the gym, or a partner we work out with, we want to do things right and follow through on our commitment. We want to have approval of our trainer or workout partner. When working out spiritually we need to seek God’s approval. We should not be trying to impress anyone but God. Your spiritual workout should bring you closer to God and make you more fit for His use.

We need to present ourselves approved to God, a workman. A workman is some one who is fit and ready to work. We need to be ready to work for God in any and every manner He so chooses. Then we will not be ashamed because we have worked out and can do the work we are called to do.

True Spiritual growth and maturity takes a plan, effort, time, commitment and dedication. It does not just happen. I encourage you to plan the work of spiritual growth (reading, studying, praying, fellowship) and then work the plan. Become a workman God can use.
