We see in the four Gospels that they all tell of the life of Jesus, His ministry and His actions, yet they all tell it from a different perspective. It is like four people standing at the four corners of an intersection who observe an accident. Each will have an account of what happened but each will be slightly different because of their perspective and the angle of their observation. They report the same incident, told slightly different. By listening to all four persons you will get the full picture.
2 Timothy 2:15 (NASB) Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth.
We are to know the Word of God, we are to study the Word of God, we are to apply the Word of God in our lives. I believe reading through the Bible in a year and using different translations will help you know and apply the Word in your life.
I know there are a lot of people who are King James only and that there are some people who have found fault with almost every translation and feel that only the King James is what you should read. However, the King James has its short comings and its miss translations and it has been updated and retranslated over four times since it was first published. Every translation has its good points and its bad points, each has its strength and weakness. So why read a different translation? Because each translation will give you a different perspective of the same event. You get to see the whole picture more clearly.
I would encourage you to read through the Bible in a year and then again the next year in a different translation and allow the Holy Spirit to give you a fuller and complete picture.
