You’ve found yourself in a predicament. You need help. What or who is your go-to? If you answer honestly, you might say “myself” or maybe “my spouse” or “my boss” or “my friend” or “my doctor”. Sometimes you need help FAST and your gut reaction says quite a bit about your foundation.
The more you rely on something or someone, the more you will rely on them. Pride says “I’ve got this” and won’t make room for God to move. How do you change your mindset to seek God first? You have to start somewhere. Psalm 121, likely written by David, is a short 8 verse Psalm about this very subject.
Psalm 121 (NASB)
1 I will raise my eyes to the mountains;
From where will my help come?
2 My help comes from the Lord,
Who made heaven and earth.
3 He will not allow your foot to slip;
He who watches over you will not slumber.
4 Behold, He who watches over Israel
Will neither slumber nor sleep.
5 The Lord is your protector;
The Lord is your shade on your right hand.
6 The sun will not beat down on you by day,
Nor the moon by night.
7 The Lord will protect you from all evil;
He will keep your soul.
8 The Lord will guard your going out and your coming in
From this time and forever.
What a beautiful confession! When this Psalm was written, things on earth were very different from today. Yet, it still applies in 2026.
God is a very present help in time of trouble. He has promised to never leave you or forsake you. He made you and therefore knows you. Notice how He watches over you even when you are sleeping! He never sleeps. You will never catch him off-guard. He protects you. Think about that – no matter what is going on in your life, you have nothing to fear because God Almighty is protecting you! He will even keep you from environmental dangers. Speaking about protection, verse 7 says He WILL protect you from ALL evil. And your soul, the core of who you are, is kept (guarded) by Him. Forever, He watches over your goings. What a comfort. What a God. What a helper. The more you turn to Him, the more you will see Him at work in your life and the more you will rest in (rely on) Him. There is no better help!
