What is sin? Sin is missing the mark. The word “sin” in 1 John 3:4 is hamartia in Greek which is an archery term meaning missing the bullseye. The “bullseye” for Christians is holiness, righteousness and obedience to God. When you willfully act in a way that is unholy, wrong according to what God has shown you, or in direct disobedience to God’s will (James 4:17), you are sinning. When you are in your sin (practicing these things without repentance) you are doing the will of satan. God cannot look on sin and bless it. Blessing the work of satan would go against the character of God. When a Christian is practicing sin (1 John 3:7-8) they are vulnerable to the attacks of the enemy as the Holy Spirit in you is being quenched. Sin opens the door to the enemy. He will steal, kill and destroy without recourse. John 10:10
That is not the end of the matter, Praise God! The blood of Jesus will cleans the repentant sinner from ALL unrighteousness. 1 John 1:7,9 God knows your heart (Luke 16:15) and if you are truly repentant. Ask yourself – would you rather enjoy the pleasure of sin (Heb 11:25) than the pleasure of God? Do not be deceived. The wages (cost or consequence) of sin is death (Romans 6:23). You cannot fool God (Galatians 6:7). Repent! The hour of judgment is coming upon the earth (Rev 14:7).
