Trust over fear

by Cindy Phillips

Who do you trust? Who do you allow to speak into your life? Who do you listen to and follow? The answers to these questions will reveal where you set your faith. There are many voices in the world, vying for your attention. You’ve got your parents, spouse, teachers, friends, the media and electronics. So many distractions…

When you trust someone you are safe around them. Those who trust God act differently than those who trust others. Fear is a byproduct of a lack of trust. Think about it. Let’s say you have a fear of heights. You are not really afraid of being high up. You are actually afraid of falling. If you knew you could not fall you would not be afraid of heights. If you could trust the guardrail you are leaning on to never break away, the fear leaves.

If you go into an unsafe place with a bodyguard, and you completely trust that bodyguard, when an attacker comes you don’t tremble in fear because you know the bodyguard will protect you. Following this truth, when you allow yourself to fear, STOP and examine your heart. Why don’t you trust God in this area? Did you get a bad report about your health? If you trusted God to heal you, trusting when you leave this life you go to be with Him, you would have no fear. Jesus has set you free from the bondage you had, and all the unsaved have; the bondage of the fear of death (Hebrews 2:15).

How do you counter fear? 1 John 4:18: There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves punishment, and the one who fears is not perfected in love. God is perfect love. So focusing on God, and not what frightens you, will cause fear to be cast out. How do you get strong faith in God? Romans 10:17 So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

So we can conclude God is stronger than anything we can fear and we can get strong faith in our strong God by hearing and hearing His Word. Renew your mind in the Word and come to know the truth about the area you were fearing. The more you trust God loves you, the less you will be moved by what is going on in the world. The stronger God’s “voice” is in your life, the less influence the world’s voices will have on you. You have an amazing future. You are here, now, in this time and place, by the sovereign will of God. He has work for you to do and He will equip you do accomplish it. The Lord will provide all you need to accomplish His will for your life – means, motive and opportunity. The enemy wants to stop you and he uses fear to do it. Trust God completely. Serve Him wholeheartedly. Do not let fear drown out your faith.
