Read the Owner’s Manual

by Pastor Dave

My wife’s car has many features and many I did not know how to access, until I studied the owner’s manual. There is still more I need to learn but I know where to go to learn. I have found that many car owners do not read the owner’s manual or even look at it. The same thing can be said about equipment. Farmers, construction workers and people like me get a new tool or a new piece of equipment and never look at the owner’s manual until something goes wrong or doesn’t work.

It is sad to say many Christians are the same when it comes to reading and studying God’s “owner’s manual”, the Bible. Many depend on their pastor, the TV or radio preacher to educate them. They do not study or read it for themselves. Until, that is, something goes wrong. Then they are motivated to read the Bible. Many Christians do not know how to counter objections to their belief in Christ because they have very little or no Bible knowledge.

2 Timothy 2:15 is a mandate to study the Bible so that we will not be ashamed and so that we can be a proper and good workman of God’s word. When we read and study the Bible we grow in our faith and our ability to witness the great things God has done for us. When we read and study we have more faith and courage and strength to stand in the face of trials and hard times. We have so much to learn of God and He gave us the Bible as an owner’s manual. I encourage you to read and study your Bible daily. Become a student of the Bible.
