(Paraphrased, 2 Samuel 24:24) ….I will not offer to the Lord that which did not cost me anything…
At the heart of this statement is the idea that worship, offerings to our Heavenly Father, should cost us something. With us, and in our time in history, the cost is not an ox, wood and a huge stone, but it should still be a cost to our worship. It could cost us time, money, effort, and giving up of something we think important or valuable. If we say we truly love God and want to honor him with our worship, we need to lay something at the alter. Our offering may be our time, which can be very valuable to so many of us, the giving up of other things we want to do, putting God first in our time. For some it is giving up of money, giving into the kingdom work, not buying what we want to buy but giving it to God. For some it means giving up our right to be right, giving up our right to to be vindicated. We lay this all before the Lord and worship, praise, acknowledge who He is. True worship comes from the heart and it is knowing that He is worthy and holy and that we need to come to Him and lay something we value at His feet.
Give God your time, your finances, your things, your attitudes, lay them at His alter and just love on God. Tell Him how good He is to you, tell Him how much you appreciate Him. Thank Him for all He has done for you. Worship Him.
