2 Corinthians 10:12 (NAS) For we are not bold to class or compare ourselves with some of those who compare ourselves with some of those who commend themselves; but when they measure themselves by themselves, and compare themselves with themselves, they are without understanding.
We have the habit of making ourselves the standard. When we see and encounter others we often compare them to us. We set ourselves as the standard. We even say things like, “I would never…” or “If it were me…”. or “I am not like them…” and so it goes. The above scripture tells us that if we measure others by ourselves, it set ourselves as the measure, we are unwise, we are without understanding.
We forget that, as Christians, we are not the the measure of all things, we are not the standard. Jesus is the standard and we are to compare our selves to Him. We do not need to compare others to ourselves to try to make us feel better about ourselves. We need to allow God to be our standard and we need to know that we are loved, forgiven, called and equipped by our Heavenly Father. He is the standard, He is the measurement we are to compare ourselves to.
