Doing dishes, sweeping the floor. Fixing a broken door knob. Touching up the cement wall. Cleaning and repairing. These are things we do in order to keep and maintain our homes. If we do not give our place of residence daily attention it will quickly deteriorate. Trash and dirt will build up. Foul odors will develop.
This principal applies to our spiritual house as well. We need to give our spiritual house, our minds and spirit, daily attention or they will deteriorate. Too often I will speak with someone who is stagnate in their spiritual walk. They do not feel the presence of the Lord and they do not have victory in their lives. More often than not, after talking, I find out they have not been maintaining their spiritual house. They have not prayed for days, even weeks. They only glance at their Bible and don’t have a regular time of reading and studying. They do not fellowship with other believers and they do not attend Church or, if they do, they come in at the last minute and leave at the first opportunity. They do not engage or participate.
What so many do not understand is that once we accept the salvation Jesus offers, it becomes our responsibility to build ourselves up in the most Holy faith. We need to give our spiritual life daily attention if we want to grow. That means we need to read the Bible daily, study regularly, pray daily and throughout the day, and attend church and be involved in fellowship. This will allow the Holy Spirit to lead and guide us in cleaning and repairing and maintaining our spiritual house. Our house can shine and stand out with daily and proper attention given to it.
What condition is your spiritual house in? Is it dirty, smelly and falling apart? Is it clean, fresh smelling and in good condition? It is up to you as to what condition your house is in.
