For many Christians, this past election has caused us to pray for our nation and those who we wanted elected. Some fasted and prayed, some prayed daily, some prayed and prayed. Now that the election is over there may be a sense of “well that is done, now we can stop praying”. However we must keep praying, even if the elected person is not who you voted for. We are told to pray for all those in authority – ALL, not just those we like or only those we voted for.
1 Timothy 2:1-4 (NIV) I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercessions and thanksgiving be made for all people- for kings, and all those in authority that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good and pleases God our Savior, who wants all peoples to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
We, as believers, are to continue to pray for our President, congress, senate, our state governor and senate and county, town and village and city leaders, for this pleases God our Savior. Pray for safety, wisdom, right decisions, leadership and salvation. We should be praying daily for all those in authority over us.
Also see 2Chronicles 7:14-15 (NIV) If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land. Now My eyes will be open and My ears attentive to the prayers offered in this place.
God is calling us to be people of prayer and to humble ourselves and pray, seek His face and turn from our sins, and then He will see, hear and move on our behalf. So pray, pray and keep praying.
