Does God’s Word work for you?

By Cindy Phillips

God’s Word works in your life to the level you believe it and act on it. If you are not spending time in the Word, the Word has no value to you. If you believe the Word, that’s good, but the Word believed but not acted on has little value to you. James 1:22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. Notice what this Scripture says about people who hear God’s Word but don’t act on it. They are deceiving themselves. In what way are they deceived? They think just hearing the Word is enough.

Only those who value God’s Word enough to seek it out, believe by faith it is the very Word of God and therefore true, and put it to work (do it) will find God’s Word working in their lives. To put this another way, if your life does not reflect what God’s Word says, could it be you don’t value it enough to know it and do it? I know that sounds harsh but there is no easy “microwave way” to have God’s powerful Word working in your life.

It’s not unlike salvation. Jesus said in Matthew 7:13-14 Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it. Notice it’s easy to walk the worldly way. It’s not easy to put aside worldly distractions and spend time with God and His Word.

What is the big deal about being a hearer and a doer of the Word? God’s Word ALWAYS works. It NEVER returns to Him void or empty. Isaiah 55:11 God’s Words are containers to deliver His truth and His power to His people. Your words are containers, too. When you say the same thing God says, your words will work, too. So I challenge you this week to take God’s Word and put it to work. Watch what God will do!
