When Jennie and I were raising four young children, we found it necessary for the two of us to get alone, daily. Anyone with young children knows how difficult that can be. What worked for us was, after we put the children to bed, we would go outside and walk around our property and talk. We would talk about our day, our frustrations, the good things the day brought, our dreams, our hopes and how we felt. Some times we would cry together and other times we would laugh together. Now that our children are grown, we still take time almost every day to be alone and enjoy each other’s presence. This allows for a growing, rich, enduring and intimate relationship.
Our Heavenly Father wants to spend “alone time” with you. Genesis 3:8 shows us that God would come in the cool of the day to walk and talk with Adam and Eve. God wants to talk to you. He wants to know how your day was. He wants you to share your hopes and dreams, your frustrations, what makes you happy, how you feel and your most intimate thoughts. If we want a growing, rich, enduring and intimate relationship with God, we need to take time to walk with Him alone, away from the distractions of the day.
Intimate conversation and just enjoying each other’s presence is powerful. I pray that you take time daily to walk and talk with your Heavenly Father.
