Psalm 37:4,5 (NAS) Delight yourself in the Lord; and He will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord, trust also in Him, and He will do it.
There are so many things we can discuss about these two verses. But for now I want to talk about being committed. What does it mean to be committed? What does it look like to be committed to the Lord? Simply put, commitment means that I am in it no matter what may happen, no matter what others say, no matter if it is easy or difficult. I am in it for the long haul. Commitment means I do not turn away and I do not turn to others. I stay focused and dedicated and committed.
Are you fully committed to God? Is He your priority? Is God first in your life? When I asked Jennie to be my wife I made a commitment to her that she would be the only woman in my life that I would be set apart for, the only woman I would be intimate with. I pledged to stay with her through all that life was going to send our way. I was, and am, fully committed to Jennie. When I got saved, when I asked Jesus into my life, I made a choice to be committed to Him and to have nothing and no one above Him in my life. My commitment led me read my Bible, to attend church, to study, to share with others and to allow God through the Holy Spirit to lead, guide, correct, rebuke, and teach me. I put nothing and no one before Jesus. He is first in my life. I seek Him daily and I read His word daily. My actions and behaviors reflect my commitment to God.
I encourage you to examine your life. Are you committed to God? Is He first in your life? Is He your priority? If you delight yourself in Him, He will fill your hearts with His desires and you can trust in Him for everything, and He will do it.
