The entrance of the Word brings light

By Cindy Phillips

I am currently journeying through the Book of Proverbs. Have you noticed how much this Book has to say about wisdom? In case you were curious, it is mentioned 54 times!! As I was meditating, mulling over, what the Word has to say about wisdom, the Lord brought to my remembrance Psalm 119:130 (NKJV).

The entrance of Your words gives light;
It gives understanding to the simple.

When God’s Word is given place in our lives (meaning we honor it, consider it valuable) light comes. What is light? Well, when I don’t understand something, I am simple. That doesn’t mean stupid. It means ignorance about that topic. When a person is ignorant about something, we say they are “in the dark”. So when I don’t understand something, I am in the dark about it. What do I need in order to come out of the darkness? Light!

Connecting these things together (simple = darkness, understanding = light), where can we get light? Allowing God’s Word to enter into our spirits gives us the light of understanding. When I need wisdom about something I should go to God’s Word to get the understanding. James tell us in Chapter 1, verses 5 and 6; If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. God’s Word gives me the understanding (allowing me to “see”) and asking God for wisdom will show me what He wants me to do with that understanding.

Isn’t God’s Word awesome?
