People are more important that your plans

By Pastor Dave

I am sitting here taking care of some business, trying to get things done so I can move on to the next thing on my list. I have my day and activities all planned out. Then comes in a gentleman who just wants to visit. He just wants to talk and have someone listen to him. That is not on my list. He has stopped in before and he will take up to an hour of my time and then I need to cut him off. So I have a choice to make. Do I tell him I do not have time to listen to him and shoo him along or realize that people are more important than my plans?

Then God reminded me of Philippians 2:3 (NAS) Do nothing from selfish or empty conceit but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves. So I sat and listened for almost a full hour. I did not get to all I wanted to do but I got to do what God wanted me to do. Putting others before yourself is inconvenient and can mess with your plans. But it can also be a blessing. It feels good to bless others with your time and attention. That is always on God’s to-do-list.

A fruitful life is one that interruptible.
