One of my sons is a Patriot’s fan. A friend is a Yankee’s fan. Many of us have a favorite foot ball team, a favorite hockey team, a favorite baseball team, a favorite golfer and so on. When we are fans of teams and people we show it. We go to games, we buy their merchandise, we let wear their logo, and we talk about them, we defend them and we gather information about them and we learn about them and we come to know them. We cheer for them, we yell, we jump up, some will dye their hair and some even get into arguments over their teams.
Are you a fan of Jesus? I find it sad that so many people will want to be identified with their team, will wear their apparel but when it comes to church things change. Many become quiet about their faith and their relationship with the Lord. No shouting, no making it known that they are a Christian, no support for the church (not like supporting their team).
We should be a fan of Jesus, God, the Holy Spirit and our church/fellowship. We should be willing to praise Him loudly, we should be willing to jump and dance for Him. We should want to let others know we are a fan of our Lord and Savior. We should be excited about going to church.
Psalm 22:1 (NASB) I was glad when they said to me, “Let us go up to the house of the Lord.”
Are you glad to go to church? Does going to church excite you as much as it would if a friend said, “Let us go to the game.”?
Psalm 68:3-4 (NASB) … let the righteous be glad; let them exult before God; Yes, let them rejoice with gladness. Sing to God, sing praises to His name; Whose name is the Lord, we exult before Him.”
We should have more excitement and praise for our church gathering and for the worship of our Lord and Savior than we do for the team or person we are a fan of. Are you a fan of God? Do you give Him all your excitement and energy while at church and around others or do you give it only to your team/person?
